I get so annoyed because if you hit a grey halfway through the level you basically can't get a high score anymore. If you're going to screw up, screw up at the very start or the very end

You might be able to, I'm up to 34 k. If you max out one setting, try a different one, you should be able to get to mid 20s with an unbroken streak on the dead center.

Sorry I didn't get to reply:
I was bottom centre for the 40k
But 25k actually makes me really happy because that gives us an average of around 30k, maybe a bit higher. I love you guys, that's a real solid effort.
