Darkness surrounds you. You feel your vision blur as you slowly fade into oblivion. You soon find yourself floating in a sea of black and unable to speak or breathe. The realization slowly begins to set in as you realize that you have officially met your end.
There is nothing left, there is no more future, all there is-
...such a sad end for our heroes.
You blink and suddenly the world is filled with vibrant colors. In front of you are the graves in the far corner of Kakariko Village. This is a place to honor the fallen, those who lost their lives, but live on in our hearts. And standing there is Impa, the village leader looking deep in prayer. You remember her as someone who gave you sagely advice in the past and someone who you feel very connected to.
You reach out to tap her shoulder and ask what she is praying about, but as you do, your hand goes right through her. You blink and look.
Your hands are now translucent, small blue foxfires glow on your transparent skin. You hold your hands up to your face and you can barely see them.
In fact, you no longer feel the breeze of a wind as it wasps through you, you no longer smell the earthen smells of the ground below you.
You just...exist as a spirit now. One who will wander the lands of Hyrule for ages to come.
As you come to this realization, Impa speaks.
If you can hear me, fallen adventurers, just know that your deaths were not in vain. In the pursuit to destroy calamity ganon, you fought well and braved many trials. You will never be forgotten. I beg you to find peace in the afterlife. I will never forget you.
And with that she bows her head, and then stands up straight as she walks back to the village, giving a look over her shoulder...which you could swear is looking at you, but...you are a spirit...that's impossible. As you try to fathom the thought that she can see you, you watch her give you a sad smile before continuing on, back to Kakariko Village.
Without you.
But yet, you don't feel so alone. Just as you thought you might, you see the spirits of your other fallen comrades floating around and all giving you warm inviting smiles. This may be the end of your journey, but it's just your beginning as a spirit.
There's so much to see, and your adventurers beckon you to follow as you begin to explore the lands of Hyrule, with no fear of ever having to perish again.
